Pricing is seasonal. Summer is high season in the St John's area being vacation and travel season. St John's hotels are popular with both Canadians sightseeing across the country, and also for rural residents making it a "shopping weekend" in the big city. If you are in St John's on business or for catching some of the downtown heritage, business or shopping, you would want a hotel in the Downtown core. Several hotels are within walking distance (or a $4 to $8 cab ride) of downtown shopping, the university, the many restaurants and the nightlife.
If you are travelling around Newfoundland along the Transportation-Canada Highway (#1), or wish to tour Newfoundland's scenic countryside, there are many fine small inns in towns around the province. Because of the city's size, all establishments are close to the highway.
